Why Your Valley Season Is Where You’ll Be Made
By Sherita Jones | The Anointing Grace
Some things aren’t birthed in the light. They’re formed in the dark. Some oil only flows after the crushing. Some testimonies don’t come from the mountaintop, but from the valley.
I know what it feels like to live in a valley season.
When everything seems like it’s falling apart.
When prayers feel like they’re bouncing off the ceiling. When you’re doing all you know to do and still life hits you in the gut.
I’ve walked through valleys that made me question everything:
God, are You even here?
Why does it feel like everyone else gets the miracle but I get the warfare?
Why does breakthrough feel like a word for them but not for me?
But let me tell you something:
The valley is holy ground.
It’s where God makes you.
Not where He abandons you, but where He digs deep, uncovers the hidden places, and begins to plant things that can only grow in the dark.
The Valley is Where You’re Planted, Not Buried.
It may feel like you’ve been forgotten. But the truth is, seeds don’t sprout in sunlight alone.
They are buried. Covered. Hidden.
And yet inside that hiding, something is happening.
Roots are forming. Strength is building. Faith is deepening. God is pulling out pride, fear, and everything that can’t go with you into the next season.
You think you’re stuck, but you’re being rooted.
He Made David in the Cave, Not the Throne Room.
David wasn’t crowned king overnight.
He was anointed and then sent right back to the fields. He played the harp for a man who wanted to kill him. He hid in caves. He wept. He waited. But that valley season? It made him.
It shaped his character. It taught him how to lean on God alone. It gave him depth. And that depth became the foundation for his destiny.
The same is true for you.
Jesus Was Tested in the Wilderness Before He Ever Preached.
Before the miracles.
Before the crowds.
Before the water turned to wine and the dead were raised
Jesus was led into the wilderness.
Not by the enemy. By the Spirit.
Let that settle in.
The wilderness wasn’t a punishment. It was preparation. Even the Son of God had to walk through silence, hunger, and temptation before stepping fully into His assignment.
So what makes us think we can bypass the valley?
The Valley Will Teach You What the Mountaintop Can’t.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
You can shout on the mountain, but you learn to listen in the valley. You can inspire from the stage, but you weep in surrender behind the scenes. You can wear a crown one day, but you’ll carry a cross first.
And when you come out, because yes, you will come out, and you won’t come out empty.
You’ll carry oil. Wisdom. Compassion.
You’ll see people differently. You’ll love deeper.
You’ll walk lighter and not because you’ve had it easy, but because you survived the pressing.
You’re Not Losing, You’re Being Refined.
Beloved,
Your valley is not wasted.
It’s where the deep work is happening.
The kind of work that doesn’t always make sense until later.
So don’t despise the low place.
Don’t curse the process.
Don’t assume delay means denial.
God is not punishing you.
He’s preparing you.
He’s building you for something weightier than you can see right now.
Stay planted. Stay surrendered. Stay hopeful.
You’re not just going through the valley, you’re being made in it.
