Altars You Didn’t Know You Built: The War for Your Mind & Identity

Let’s just start right here:

We are a chosen generation.

A royal priesthood.

A peculiar people.

But if we’re honest… most days we don’t live like it. We say we believe God, but quietly agree with every lie the enemy whispered in our youth.

We quote scriptures with our mouths but live in a reality built by trauma, betrayal, rejection, abandonment, and twisted reflections in a broken mirror.

Why?

Because identity is spiritual, and your mind is the war zone where destiny is either birthed or aborted.

The Lie Has a Root

We’ve accepted false identities because of what we’ve experienced. We shape ourselves around the pain instead of the promise. What should have shaped us into God’s likeness has instead distorted us into survivors of labels, cycles, abuse, and generational wounds.

But here’s the part we skip over:

You have to identify the root.

You can’t cast down a lie you’re still feeding.

Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 10 to cast down every imagination and thought that exalts itself above the knowledge of God. That’s active warfare, not passive wishing. You can’t cast something down while letting unholy music, social media, conversations, and internal dialogue water it.

Daughter of Sarah, Not Jezebel

I know this is going to be controversial, but I’ll say it anyway:

We’ve erected altars of Jezebel and labeled them “empowerment.”

The world teaches us to be loud, independent, unapologetically rebellious, and calls it liberation. But the Bible calls us daughters of Sarah. Meekness. Wisdom. Quiet strength. Holiness. Not weakness, power under submission to the King.

Feminism has become the mask some of us wear to hide our fear of being vulnerable, or the scar tissue we grew after being hurt by men, leaders, and people in general.

But hear me: Your womanhood is not a rebellion. It’s a reflection of royalty.

You’re Giving Life to Something…

Every thought you allow to linger plants a seed.

Every meditation of the heart begins to shape the garden of your life.

So what are you giving life to?

When the Bible says in Philippians 4:8 to think on things that are pure, lovely, honest, and of good report, it’s not a suggestion. It’s a lifeline. Because your thoughts become roots, and your roots birth fruits.

And when those thoughts go unchallenged, altars start to rise.

Altars of fear.

Altars of comparison.

Altars of brokenness.

Altars of shame.

Altars of pride dressed as confidence.

The list goes on.

And we wonder why we feel heavy. Why we’re always warring. Because those altars weren’t built to honor God.

The Flesh Is Loud, but Obedience Is Louder

Let me speak from experience:

Obedience is necessary to silence the voices.

But here’s the truth, we don’t really want to silence them. We feed them. We scroll, we binge, we avoid. We numb instead of name. We entertain instead of intercede.

We treat distractions like therapy, and then ask God why we can’t hear Him.

But friend, you can’t obey the voice of the Lord when His voice is drowned out by the noise you keep inviting.

You Didn’t Know It Was an Altar, Did You?

That’s why it’s been so hard.

That’s why you’re fighting so much resistance.

That’s why it feels like the wilderness never ends.

Because you’re trying to tear down an altar, one you didn’t even know you built.

And your flesh doesn’t want it to fall.

And the adversary is invested in keeping it up.

But today, the Spirit of God is calling you out of agreement with lies.

Time to Wake Up

The Word says we are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). And not because knowledge wasn’t available, but because we rejected it.

We’d rather scroll through “affirmations” and “healing crystals” than sit quietly with the Word that exposes us and heals us.

But there is no real healing without truth. There is no freedom without renewal. And there is no identity without the One who created you.

Here’s the Call:

“Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

(Romans 12:2)

God wants everything.

He wants your thoughts.

Your imaginations.

Your assumptions.

Your internal narrative.

He wants to rewire your mind to match the truth of His Word.

The Glory Is on the Other Side

I fight too.

I’ve wept over false names I’ve worn.

I’ve torn down altars with trembling hands.

I’ve had to cast down imaginations that wore my face and sounded like my past.

But I know this: glory awaits on the other side of surrender.

You are God’s peculiar treasure.

You are His daughter, chosen, holy, and royal.

And He is not silent about your identity.

So today, cast down the lie.

Tear up the roots.

Dismantle the altar.

And give your mind back to the One who designed it.

Think on these things.

Renew your mind.

Walk in the light you were called into.

Because friend, you were never meant to live in the shadows of someone else’s version of you.

You are royalty.

And it’s time you start thinking like it.
