Eyes to See: Walking in Power Beyond the Surface
By Sherita Jones | The Anointed Grace
We are seated in heavenly places. That’s not just a poetic line or a spiritual cliché, it’s a present, eternal truth written in the Word of God. And yet, how many of us are living as though we’re still bound to the dust? Still controlled by what we see with our natural eyes? Still reacting to life from the same old place of fear, insecurity, or doubt?
Our natural eyes will always betray us.
They will have us fearing what’s already defeated in the natural. They will keep us distracted by the temporary. They’ll convince us that we’re losing, when we’ve already won in the Spirit. The Bible says,
“For the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18 KJV).
That means everything we’re going through, the battles, the delays, the injustices, they’re all temporary. But what God is doing in the unseen realm? That’s eternal.
Side note, when we focus on the unseen, the eternal, we lose track of time. Patience will come naturally, because we’ve decided to live outside of time in the eternal.
Let’s talk about Peter.
He was walking on water. Supernaturally doing what only faith can do, until his eyes locked on the storm. Until the wind got louder than the Word. Until what he saw became bigger than Who he saw, Jesus. That’s how quick it happens. One glance at the temporary, and we start to sink.
Just an extra golden nugget, Peter bid the Lord to come to Him. This is proof that Peter knew Jesus, this was deeper than belief, and even then, Peter doubted. Let That sink in.
And then we see another moment, just as raw. Jesus talking with Peter, and in the middle of the conversation, He turns and says, “Get thee behind me, Satan” (Matthew 16:23 KJV). Why? Because Peter’s words, though loving and well-meaning, aligned with the mindset of man, not the purposes of God. Jesus wasn’t rebuking Peter’s person, He was rebuking the spirit influencing the moment. That’s how deep this is.
We are in a war.
A real one. And the battlefield isn’t what you can see, it’s what you can’t.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers…” (Ephesians 6:12 KJV).
Life is way more spiritual than we often admit. We are being targeted because of what we carry. And the higher you go in God, the more intense the warfare becomes. So we can’t afford to keep stumbling over the same distractions, the same cycles, the same emotions. We’ve got to rise with a made-up mind to fight back, spiritually.
And how do we fight?
With truth.
With knowledge.
With identity.
God said in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” And that’s exactly where the enemy keeps so many of us bound, in ignorance of who we really are.
We talk a lot about identity in Christ, and yes, it’s good to know we’re no longer the same sinner we once were. Yes, it’s good to walk in holiness and godliness. But that’s only part of it. What about the power?Jesus didn’t just walk holy, He walked in power. Demons recognized Him from miles away. They trembled at His presence.
So my question is: Are we walking in that power too? Or have we settled for just surface-level identity, never fully stepping into the authority that Christ gave us?
“Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4 KJV).
That’s not just something to shout over, that’s a call to rise up. To really live like He’s in us. To operate like victory is already ours. To command darkness to flee, because we know Who we carry.
But let’s be honest, we’ve all wrestled with unbelief.
Even the father in Mark 9 cried out, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” And sometimes, that’s our cry too.
Lord, I believe… but I’m tired.
I believe… but I’m overwhelmed.
I believe… but I don’t always feel it.
And that’s okay, if we don’t stop there.
Because now is the time. Now is the season. Now is the call to walk in what we know, not just what we feel. Now is the time to live from the throne room, not the valley. Now is the time to believe God, but more importantly, to know Him.
The battle is daily. The war is real. But the victory is ours, if we see with the right eyes.
So ask yourself:
Am I walking in surface identity, or power identity?
Am I reacting with natural vision, or responding from a heavenly seat?
Am I entertaining unbelief, or commanding my soul to remember who my God is?
You are seated in heavenly places.
Let your spirit rise to where your soul has already been placed. Let your eyes adjust to the light of the throne. Walk in the power of the One who lives in you.
Because the time is now.
